Thank you Volunteers!

April is National Volunteer Month, and we wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who help bring HACCM’s mission to life! Our work is supported by over 40 volunteers who help us with various projects at the museum. Here is an idea of some of the projects our volunteers help with:

  1. Designing and installing special exhibitions
  2. Interviewing people for our oral history project
  3. Planning and coordinating events, lectures, movie nights, and more
  4. Digitizing community archives (photographs, records of family histories, etc.)
  5. Transcribing oral history interviews
  6. Creating a guide for museum visitors to learn more about the collection
  7. Welcoming visitors to the museum and helping with tours
  8. Scanning documents
  9. Graphic design
  10. Managing our library collection

And SO much more! HACCM is a small organization, but there is lot to dig into here! We value and rely on volunteer support because it is essential in our mission to bring Greek arts and culture to life. Our volunteers in turn get the chance to see behind the scenes at HACCM, learn more about their family history, or even shape programming and visitor experiences.

Today we would like to feature a project that was spearheaded by a group of volunteers: HACCM’s new scavenger hunt! One of our volunteers was inspired by a recent visit to another local museum, and proposed the idea of creating our own scavenger hunt. The goal was to find a way to engage with our visitors and have them look closer at the objects on display. After a few months of designing, walking around the museum clockwise and counterclockwise to determine the best paths, meeting, and editing, we were thrilled to finally get to use the scavenger hunt for a group of students who visited HACCM this February. Thank you Alexandra, Sandra, Joan, and Georgia for your help on this project, which gives audiences of all ages the chance to dig deeper into the displays at the museum!

And thank you, HACCM Volunteers! We couldn’t do this without you.
